WHY IS IT WORTH CHOOSING CERAMIC TILES?

State of the art fashion tendencies for ceramic tile design:

Colours

Colour is a major means to create solid interior. Choose colours in view of designation, size, height and illumination of the room. Of course, individual taste of a customer is a strong determinant, too.

  • Revival of colour. Gamut of black and grey colours is being replaced by intensive warm and energetic colours. Bright, resolute open colours. The whole colour spectrum from yellow, orange and red to claret and dark purple shades (Colore).
  • Minimalist colour palette: achromatic colours (from white to graphite black) and sophisticated ground colours: gamut of brown colours from ivory to black chocolate, heavy claret and coral red is combined with the shine of gold and platinum (Matera, Barocco, Xeno).
  • Palette of pastel colours that conveys the airiness of light and the gamut of soft antique frescoes (Vetri).
  • Tiles patterned with flowers and strips. It is only performance technique and graphic manner of drawings that are different (Barocco, Colore, Matera).

Style

  • Air of oriental aesthetics (Xeno, Leda, Aveniu).
  • Western minimalism: elongated tiles with reasonable drawings, of reserved colour and facture are combined with décors of expressive flowery drawings (sophisticated luxury version is modern baroque (Barocco, Lacy, Matera).
  • Always relevant rustic style (Herba, Fazenda, Cotto).

Formats and Sizes

  • Prevailing tiles are elongated rectangular tiles; ratio between the short and the long side is increasing (25x40 cm tiles).
  • It is suggested to combine various formats: larger tiles should be alternated with cut mosaic tiles (Aveniu, Leda, Colore).

Surfaces

  • Apart from natural stone (Metropolis) and marble (Imperija) reflection, there is a strong tendency to imitate fabric (Barocco, Lacy, Herba, Xeno), leather (Leda) and minimalist cement surface (Aveniu).
  • By contrast, mat surface is combined with a strongly expressed relief of deep structure (Colore). Sometimes tiles become bulk objects. Relief of tiles reflects light; then, the play of reflections and shadows imparts dynamics and additional expressivity (Matera, Elegija).
  • Ceramics imitates the clarity of crystal and pearly surface of merging colours (Vetri).

Décor

  • Tile manufacturers seek to leave some space for individual sense of aesthetics and to allow the creator of interior to choose details, their amount and location at his/her own discretion, and to design expressive, unique and stylistically solid interiors.
  • Décors are matched very subtly by the shade of the colour (Vetri).
  • Décors contain drawings of multi-style flowers: ethnographic elements, baroque details and strong influence of Japanese aesthetics. Another motive used is lace, suggested by the newly discovered romanticism (Lacy).
  • Shimmer of luxurious materials: glitter of gold, platinum, diamond and pearl colours (Barocco, Lacy).
  • There is a tendency to treat décor as a picture (panel): it comprises 2, 4, 6 and even 9 tiles: (Colore).
  • Ornamentals, graphic style and examples of the fine arts in the 70s and 80s. Decorative surface structure and architectonic elements (Vetri).
  • Combination of contrasting sizes (Aveniu).
  • Various materials combined ingeniously (ceramics with wood, metal and glass) (Xeno, Aveniu).
